Why this trip?

This website is a commentary on  the planning and then execution of our trip from Australia  to Scotland overland. The aim is to take no planes and to rely on local transport as much as possible.

So why am I undertaking this trip? And I say I because Imogen is more than capable of speaking for herself  and of course will. First of all to see my mum!! And Dad and of course sis and new nephew and all the other family and friends I haven’t  seen for so long. Secondly because it will be great fun!! Thirdly because climate change is such a threat that I want to minimise my contribution to it at the same time as drawing attention to the perils we are facing in my own small way. To this end I will endeavour to avoid the most carbon intensive transport modes  in particular the aeroplane  and try to use transport that would be going our way anyway i.e. local and intercity public transport.  At the same time I want to explore some of the attitudes to and impacts of climate change in each of the countries we visit and try to meet some of the inspirational people that are taking action to prevent it occurring. But this trip is also about having fun and will explore some of the ways of doing so whilst minimising the impact on the planet.

  1. I love this concept. As a family we have just started blogging and documenting our lives and choices around being more sustainable. It’s great to see someone else taking a similar and different journey that I can watch and learn from. Happy travels!
